Nightly Skincare Routine

Two things I’m passionate about: safer and cleaner products, and skincare. Combine the two and I’m in pure bliss! Companies like Beautycounter and Follain make it so easy for me to enjoy safe beauty and skincare products, because they take the guess work out of ingredients.

Learn more about Beautycounter’s mission

I have always been obsessed with beauty and wellness brands. Finding the latest hot brand or beauty trend is something I at one time did for a living! Because I love discovering new brands and trying out different product, there was a time where I did not have a specific skincare routine and would often switch things up ultimately causing my skin to suffer.

The biggest change in my skin came after I switched to a set routine using the same products every night. While trying new products is fun and a great way to learn what you like, switching up my products that much was not helping my skin at all! I encourage you to find your core products that work for your skin and stick with those.

I do tend to tweak my routine with the seasons as my skin needs different nourishment with the weather change. Recently, you all voted to learn more about the products I use in my nighttime skincare routine. My night regimen stays pretty consistent year round and I supplement some special products in as needed.

Nightly Skincare Routine

I start my skincare routine after I’ve showered at night. I like to remove my makeup with one of the Beautycounter Makeup Remover Wipes and then gently wash any remaining makeup (pesky mascara) off in the shower.

I’ve broken down the nightly skincare routine by the order I use the products. You’ll see that I refer to some products as supplement products. These are staple skincare products that I include in my routine depending on my skin’s needs. For example, if I’m feeling a little dull or extra dry, I supplement that by adding a brightening face oil at the end.

The only step I didn’t outline is what to do after…for me it’s winding down for the night which includes reading or tuning into a guilty pleasure reality TV show (currently Vanderpump Rules).

I cleanse with a pea size of the Ocean Cleanser by OSEA. This cleanser is ideal for combo/normal skin types and will help

  •  gently exfoliate
  • balance and refresh skin
  • leaves protective barrier intact

I have been loving it in the winter because it’s super hydrating and leaves my skin feeling plump and refreshed.

I follow my cleanser with this COQ-10 Toner from Indie Lee. With just a few sprays onto a cotton pad the toner helps deliver additional moisture while taking away excess oil and dirt. It’s great for sensitive skin and I find that it brighten, hydrate and calm my skin. The Hyaluronic acid also has anti-aging properties. #goals

Okay, here’s where you gotta listen to your skin. After I cleanse and tone I follow it up with one of these two products depending on what my skin needs.

If it’s just a “regular” night or my skin is feeling dry I grab the Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery CreamThis nighttime recovery cream is great for combination, normal, or dry skin. You only need a little dime size, so a little goes a long way! I love it because it’s very rich and hydrating (perfect for winter). It also helps to soothe irritated skin and balance out any redness, while protecting against environmental stressors. Make room in your medicine cabinet for this all-around-amazing face cream.

One to two times a week instead of the  Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream I turn to my trusty friend, Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel. I could not rave about this product more. If there’s one Beautycounter product I recommend to first time users, this is it!

Why is it so great? Using botanically-derived acids, this peel helps to improve your skin texture and minimize the appearance of any fine lines, dark spots, or pores. I turned to this product to help clear up old acne scarring and dark spots before the wedding and it did wonders for my skin! You’ll also wake up with a nice morning glow brought to you by the hyaluronic acid and essential fatty acids found in this overnight peel.

Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream or Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel I wait about 3-5 minutes before applying a night cream and eye cream. This is the perfect time to brush my teeth, floss, or do a little dance.

For night creams, I love using Beautycounter’s Nourishing Night Cream. A great staple product that provides hydrating and nourishing moisture. I’m also a huge fan of the Countermarch Recovery Sleeping Cream. I tend to grab the Countermatch Sleeping Cream in the summer months when my skin is a littler oilier.

I follow my night cream up with a few light dabs of an eye cream gently around my eyes.

Again, depending on how your skin is feeling a facial oil is a great way to end your skincare routine if you need some extra moisture, brightening or help with clarity. Beautycounter offers three face oils that help achieve these goals.

If you haven’t noticed by now, I like to go to bed with super hydrated skin. Your body looses moisture at night so protecting your skin and using night time as a time to recover is key.

If I feel like I need some brightening help, I grab the No. 1 Brightening Face Oil from Beautycounter. Lightweight, smooth, and smells amazing! The Brightening Face Oil helps give your skin a boost of radiance.

For the times where my skin just feels unbalanced…whether it’s blemishes that are popping up, redness, or discoloration, I grab the No. 3 Balancing Face Oil. The No. 3 Oil uses ingredients like meadow foam seed oil and chamomile to help calm and restore balance to skin. I’ve been using the Balancing Face Oil a TON this winter to help with skin clarity.

This routine is something I’ve developed after really learning what works best for my skin and doing research on clean, safer beauty products. I encourage you to do your research and find those products that work for your skin type.

Try some of these products yourself!

Both Beautycounter and Follain are helping to take the guesswork out of clean beauty, which is why I turn to them for my skincare products.
