Our Wedding Day | Recap of our Columbus, Ohio Wedding & the Amazing Vendors Who Made It Happen

Everyone says it, but holy s$%* your wedding day flies by. Not only is the day itself one big blissful blur, but all the moments, the months, weeks, days  of planning leading up to the big day seem to mush all together. We are now 3 months post wedding, but I still find myself looking back on and remembering sweet tidbits of our magical day. Guess what, time doesn’t slow down after the wedding either which is why you’re getting this post 3 months out instead of 3 weeks (wink, wink).

I want to recap our wedding day for two reasons: first to commemorate the day, look back fondly on these memories and preserve it here in this space that is mine and second, to give credit where credit is due…our amazing vendors who made all of our wedding day dreams come true. If you are a bride in the Columbus, Ohio or surrounding area, you’re going to want to listen up and break out that wedding day planner (yeah, I know you have one!).

Hair & Makeup – The Bride Bar

Every girl dreams of that day of glam. After months of planning (and stressing), being pampered with my gals was something I was really looking forward to. I went with The Bride Bar for day of hair and makeup. I chose  The Bride Bar for a few different reasons:

  1. When you want something done right….go to an expert. The name in itself ”The Bride Bar,“just screams bridal perfection. Bridal hair and makeup is what  The Bride Bar has mastered…so sign me up!
  2. I also took comfort in the fact that the hair and makeup artists would be solely focusing on my bridal party and myself. You can choose to use the private space  The Bride Bar has, or have the artists come to you, either way you are not fighting crowds at a busy salon or worrying about your hair and makeup artists juggling other clients.
  3. Something really important to me was looking like myself on my wedding day (just a slammed up bridal version of that). I’m all for a smokey eye or bold lip when the time is right, but for me, I wanted to look more natural glam on the big day. I wanted to be able to look back on wedding photos and recognize myself!  The Bride Bar works to make each client the best version of themselves. The hair and makeup artists really got the concept of playing up your best features and making the “effortless beauty” look a reality.

We had the best time at  The Bride Bar on the day of and were even able to bring in food and mimosas to get the party started. Hair was done by Gabriella Oster (check her work out on Instagram @gabriellaoster), and makeup was done by Erica Eigensee (@e.eigensee). Together they made for one heck of a duo and we all could not have been happier with our experience.

The Bride Bar  is located on the same floor as Zurie, an event space and photo studio in Downtown Columbus. I rented the Zurie space later in the morning so we could eat lunch, get changed, and take some pre-wedding photos. Being able to utilize this space was a HUGE bonus…the lighting in the studio made for some dreamy photos.

Photography – Jessica Babic Photography

Our photographer was one of the first vendors I booked early on in the wedding planning process. Having beautiful pictures to remember our day with was a huge priority for us, so it might surprise you to hear that we actually booked the first photographer we ever met with, Jessica of Jessica Babic Photography.

I cannot say enough kind things about Jessica. Not only is she the sweetest human, but she knows how to put you at ease in front of the camera and have fun with you! We were so pleased with our decision to have her photograph our special day. I get teary eyed every time I look through the photos because I can just FEEL THE LOVE!

Jessica did an amazing job at responding to all of my many questions leading up to the wedding. She even went above and beyond and helped me map out a timeline (my OCD was in overdrive those weeks right before the wedding!).

If there’s one piece of advice I could give future brides, it is to find a photographer you genuinely mesh with. It’s important that their style complements yours and you feel comfortable with them, because they will be with you all day, on the biggest day!

The Venue – The Loft at Dock 580

The moment we toured The Loft at Dock 580, we knew it was for us. We were looking for a space that didn’t need a ton of dressing up, somewhere were we could have both ceremony and reception, and a place where we could great value. Dock 580 checked all of those boxes and more.

The Loft at Dock 580 has an upstairs loft, where the ceremony took place and then was flipped during cocktail hour for the reception. The downstairs houses the bar, and dance floor. We loved having a space where we could have both wedding and ceremony and felt like the staff did a great job of transitioning the space.

With brick interior, hanging lights, and floor to ceiling windows, the warm industrial feel of The Loft contributed to the overall ambiance of our day. Ambiance aside, the staff at Dock 580 were phenomenal. We had multiple planning meetings leading up to the big day with our day of coordinator who made everything so easy for us. We were even able to participate in a tasting to choose our menu. No detail was overlooked, and if you are as detail oriented as me – this was a huge must with a venue!

Some personal touches we added to the wedding that were much more meaningful than decor or location were the people involved. My uncle officiated our wedding. It was so special to have someone who knows us do the honor of marrying us. My aunt sang one of our favorite songs “How Long Will I Love You,” while we shared communion. We also had a close friend of ours and my cousin do scripture readings. It was these personal touches by our loved ones that added to the day even more.

Reception Details – Florist, Cake, and DJ

There are so many small details that went into making our day what it was. Our wedding day would not have been the same without the vendors who provided these crucial details.

First, our amazing florals were provided by Cleveland Plant and Flower Companyand designed into all of their beautiful glory by Carol Smith of Carol’s Botanical Styles. Carol is a freelance floral designer with decades of experience under her belt. She listened to our vision and executed beyond! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a more personal experience.

Short North Piece of Cake was our choice for our delicious cake and cupcakes. I personally loved giving our guests the option of mini cupcakes so they could sample a few flavors. Short North Piece of Cake was easy to work with, very detailed and communicative and delivered the cake seamlessly to our venue, proving you really can have your cake and eat it too.

A good party needs…good music, which is exactly what Chris Holloway from Megabeat Entertainmen delivered. Chris did an amazing job of playing off the the vibe of our wedding reception. If he noticed that the crowd was loving a certain song, he played something similar to keep the party going. I am not just saying this because it was my own wedding…but the reception WAS A BLAST. I loved watching our guests quite literally dance the night away.

We added a photo booth to our package and I’m so glad we did. Not only was the photo booth a great way for guests to have extra fun, but we still laugh hysterically looking through the keepsake album we received at the end of the night.

What We Wore

I shopped for my dress at La Jeune Mariee in downtown Columbus, and their sister store, Luxe Redux in the Short North. My experience at both shops was simply amazing and I couldn’t rave about their service or selection more. I would highly recommend both places to any bride depending on your needs.

I ended up purchasing my Willow By Waters gown from La Jeune Mariee as well as my veil. The lace bolero I wore for the ceremony and pictures was custom made.

Our bridesmaids wore a mix of designers from different boutiques both online and brick and mortar. We went shopping together to get a feel of color palette and style. Once we had that narrowed down the girls were able to choose where to purchase their dresses.

The gentlemen wore dark navy suits from Jos. A. Bank at Easton Gateway.

Someone recently asked me if I wanted to relive our wedding day. While tempting, I don’t think I would, because I wouldn’t have changed a single detail.

Beyond the flowers, music, cake, and dresses, our day meant so much more than that. I am filled with the same overwhelming love I felt on that day when I look at these pictures today – and that feeling is something I intend to relive as much as possible.
