The sweet secret to beautiful, glowing skin. My first dermaplaning treatment with Skin & Sugar.

We all want it…that glowing, wake up flawless, no makeup beautiful skin. But how do we achieve the “Hollywood glow?” The answer starts with regular skincare treatments. For many (myself once upon a time included) skincare treatments are not something we see as regular upkeep, like our dentist appointments, visits to the salon or even the gym. As I get older, I’ve become more aware of my skin and implementing good skin routines. However, no matter how much money or time you drop on all the fancy eye creams, lasers, exfoliants…nothing compares to good, regular, skin treatments. Even the best of the best skincare products will not be as effective if your skin is suffering from uneven tone, congestion, clogged pores, or other underlying issues. Having a regular facial or dermaplaning treatment can even your skintone, remove unwanted hair, lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and ultimately, help your skincare products reach their potential.

unnamedRecently, I visited Sarah Jacobson, founder of Skin & Sugar in Columbus, Ohio for my first dermaplaning treatment. Sarah is an advanced esthetician specializing in facial treatment and the sugaring technique of hair removal…and she’s probably one of the sweetest humans I’ve ever met! Her studio is adorable, smells amazing, and has such a nice, relaxing ambiance about it…I instantly felt at home. Before you start an appointment with Sarah, you’ll answer some questions about your skin, and share any concerns or goals you’d like to work towards. I felt comfortable, and confident trusting Sarah during my dermaplaning treatment, and was able to relax (which was a nice treat) while she went about her business.

If you’re not familiar with Dermaplaning, let me explain. Dermaplaning is a method of skin exfoliation. A trained esthetician will use a sterile scalpel to remove the top layer of dead skin cells along with vellus hair (aka that annoying peach fuzz…we all have it!). Dermaplaning benefits skin in brightening skin tone , helping with scarring and evening out pigmentation. Another benefit of dermaplaning is product penetration. With the dead skin and vellus hair out of the way, the face is able to better accept products. This benefit is something I noticed instantly! After my dermplaning, my moisturizer and skincare glided on effortlessly, and my makeup looked night and day 100x better. Foundation application was smoother, and easier to blend. Honestly, I was able to use less foundation and concealer because my skin tone was so evened out. I’ve gone makeup free more often, because my skin felt that amazing.

The mission of Skin & Sugar is to help you achieve beautiful skin, and feel confident in your skin. I LOVE that this is Sarah’s goal with each client, and it definitely shines through. I left my appointment honestly glowing, and I cannot wait to go back! I’m so excited to see Skin & Sugar grow, and have more people experience Sarah’s amazing work.

If you are in the Columbus, Ohio area I recommend visiting Sarah for your skincare needs. You can find out more at: and be sure to follow Skin & Sugar on Instagram @skin_and_sugar

I was moved enough to drop a comment 🙂 I do have 2 questions for you if it’s okay.
Is it only me or does it look like like some of these remarks come across as if they are coming from brain dead individuals?
😛 And, if you are writing on other sites, I would like to keep up with anything new you have
to post. Would you make a list every one of all your communal sites like your twitter
feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

  7. Lovely! I’m glad you’ve found a suitable face treatment for yourself. I was in a beauty salon only once in my life, 10 years ago before my wedding day 😀 I’m scared to death with any invasive skin treatment methods but I could try a light exfoliating treatment some day perhaps.

    1. Thanks for reading! If you’re ever interested in trying a skin treatment, I suggest going to see a professional. They can adjust treatments to meet the needs of your sensitive skin. Dermaplaning was actually pretty gentle and a non-invasive treatment. Highly recommend!
