Affordable Fall Fashion, Five Pieces Your Closet Needs, Each Under $90!

Every season I like to invest in a few key pieces for my closet. While it’s fun to go out and buy the latest “it” clothing item,  after a few wears, that floral romper might not be so practical (speaking from experience here). It’s important to try funky new trends, but you’ll get more for your money if you invest in key pieces that you can 1. Mix and Match, 2. Wear throughout the season, and in other seasons.

Using the mix and match mindset as well as thinking of practicality, I’ve put together the top 5 pieces you need to refresh your closet this fall.

 Classic T-Shirt

God, bless the creator of the flattering, feminine, classic t-shirt. I’m not talking your boyfriends old football t-shirt here (although that may make some comfy PJs). I’m talking a  soft, versatile, and flattering t-shirt. You can’t go wrong with a good classic tee. Short or long sleeves, a cute classic tee looks polished tucked in, layered under a cardigan or solo and jazzed up with some jewelry. Below are two must-have tee’s that I’ve added to my closet this fall.

Perfect Tee from Ashley LeMiuex

These T-shirts fit like butter! So soft, so flattering, so everything. I love layering mine under a cardigan because the material is light enough and doesn’t look bulky.

The EveryWear Tee from Old Navy

I love popping into Old Navy when the seasons change. I always find affordable, cute staples to add to my closet. Old Navy is my go-to spot for tee’s. They have a variety of styles, and colors in both short and long sleeves. I love this EveryWear Tee! It’s super soft, hangs on your body just right and can layer under a jacket or cardigan. A striped tee leaves you with so many options. Stripes are basically a neutral at this point, right?

Distressed Jean

Every gal needs a cute distressed jean to complete their closet. Something about the worn-in look of denim just screams fall. My favorite distressed jeans have just a little wearing near the pockets, down by the knees, and are a slightly faded color. I pair mine with a cute bootie and jacket. There are so many amazing styles of distressing out now. Frayed and raw hem styles are a good way to add a little trendy edge to your look. Here are some of my favorite distressed styles.

Modern Skinny in Distressed Indigo from Loft

Disclaimer here, I am a huge supporter of any pants from LOFT. They have a range of sizes, including tall and petite. The quality of their denim is unparalleled for their price. I have not found a pair of jeans elsewhere that fit correctly, are amazing quality and affordable. Ok, end rant. How cute are these distressed jeans!? Just the right amount of wear, and that stretch fit…**sigh**

High Waisted Distressed Original Girlfriend Jeans from Express

I’m such a fan of the boyfriend style jean, but it’s a little hard for me to find a flattering pair, because I’m petite. I feel like the slouchy fit makes me look even shorter, and kind of sloppy. Enter, the GIRLFRIEND jean. This fit combines the relaxed feel of the boyfriend jean, but has a bit more structure and is cut to fit a lady’s curves. Plus, they are high waisted, so ya know…go ahead and order that chips and queso before dinner.

A Moto-Jacket

Moto-jackets are so “in” this season, and I’m a huge supporter of the different fabrics and colors out there. A motorcycle jacket is the perfect fall staple, you can truly make this style look casual, or more formal for a night out over a dress or flowy top. I’m personally, loving the suede style below from Old Navy. I picked it up this weekend to throw over my tee’s. It comes in a wine color and cognac color, and is very affordable!

Evonne Zip Up Leather Jacket from Goodnight Macaroon

Check out the detail on these faux leather jackets from Goodnight Macaroon. The ribbing on the side and extra zipper detail make these jackets slimming and feminine. A leather stye motorcycle jacket is an easy way to give your look a little bit of polished edge. Plus, that light pink is too cute!

At this point, chambray has become a staple in my wardrobe for all seasons. A chambray shirt or dress is an effortless throw on piece to look like you have your ish together. This season, I’m noticing different washes and details being added to chambray which makes me smile, because I hope it’s a style that’s here to stay…forever…like please never leave me.

1969 Denim Western Shirt from The Gap

How perfect is this wash? Light enough to pair with dark jeans (yes, I support denim on denim), dark enough to pair with light or colored jeans, just so so so perfect. Added bonus, this chambray shirt is super soft and hangs just right.

Women’s Denim Shirt Dress, A New Day from Target

If you’ve been to Target recently (and if you haven’t what’s wrong with you?!), you’ve probably noticed a new brand they are carrying called A New Day. So far, everything I’ve tried from this brand is super cute, very on trend and good quality. This denim dress is a must! the long sleeves make it ideal for fall, and you can easily pair it with booties or a cardigan.

A Sassy Cardigan

I say sassy because this is NOT your Grandma’s cardigan. I think cardigans get a bad rep, like they are reserved solely for business looks, stuffy meetings, or church brunches. WRONG – a sassy cardigan paired with a the perfect skinny jeans, or underneath a cute moto jacket is a serious style upgrade. What makes a sassy cardigan you ask? Think fun, unexpected detail detail like a bow or bell sleeves, a flirty neckline, or bold color.

June Open Wrap Tassels Cardigan

The tassel fringe detail on this open cardigan from Goodnight Macaroon is a perfect example of a sassy cardigan! Fringe and tassels are so on trend, and I think this detail is here to stay for a while. You can easily pair a classic white t-shirt underneath this long wrap cardigan and you’re set with a fresh fall look.

Maggie Ruffle Sleeve Thin Sweater
I’m obsessed with the flirty sleeves on this thin cardigan sweater from Goodnight Macaroon. This style comes in four different colors, so you’re sure to find one to fit your closet’s needs. I love pairing mine with a distressed skinnies or over my favorite sassy leather skirt for a fun look.

You don’t have to take out a personal loan to refresh your style! All of the looks posted are each under $90. I promise you will find versatility in each piece and be able stretch your dollar even further to create multiple outfits. Set some goals for yourself this week, maybe aim to workout every day, gratitude journal, or clean out your closet in preparation for a new season. Reward yourself by picking up one of these key pieces for fall!
